Commission Junction Lets Contestants Guess When Exclusivity Contracts from Affiliate Marketing Providers Will End
SANTA BARBARA, CA - March 17, 2000 - Commission Junction, the pioneer of EnContext™ , today announced the launch of a $50,000 sweepstakes called "When Will it End?" The sweepstakes, being held at www.whenwillitend.com, asks visitors to guess the date when affiliate marketing solution providers LinkShare™ and BeFree™ will end their exclusivity contracts with online merchants.
Unlike Commission Junction, both BeFree and LinkShare currently mandate exclusive contracts from online merchants for a one to three year period.
Commission Junction believes that for an online merchant to work with any exclusive affiliate marketing solution provider is incredibly risky. Why? By definition, affiliate marketing (i.e. pay-per-sale or performance marketing) now encompasses almost all aspects of e-commerce. This includes storefronts, product placements, banners, buttons, text links, mobile devices, and even broad band appliances. By agreeing to exclusivity, a merchant literally forfeits away the power to decide how and where they will sell on the web. Many merchants have unwittingly agreed to exclusivity without being fully aware of the implications.
Commission Junction's intention is to put an end to exclusivity and maintain the Internet's open architecture by giving merchants the option to work with multiple affiliate marketing solution providers. Commission Junction invites you to participate in the "When Will It End?" sweepstakes for your chance to win $25,000 for guessing the date BeFree will give up exclusivity, and an additional $25,000 for LinkShare.
